Check Microsoft skydrive

Even though I am not a user of Microsoft products, this time I decided to review Microsoft Skydrive. What I found attractive was basically the price, an account of 100 GB (107 GB if you are a new user, and 125 GB if you are a previous user of skydrive) cost only £ 32 a year. This price is very competitive compared to Dropbox and the recently announced Google drive. I have installed skydrive in OS X and IOS, and it is properly working. The only limitation is that currently there is no client for Linux, however the web-based interface allows, at least, to access the information.

One of my concerns was the access to the files with pages and keynote in the iPad, fortunately the app of SMEStorage allows to have WebDAV access to the files.

USB 3.0

I just bought a USB 3.0 HUB and a couple of USB 3.0 Hard drives to speed up my analysis. In Linux (ubuntu 10.10) there was no problem because Linux is already supporting USB 3.0 since a while. For my surprise when I tried the hard drives in Windows 7 they were turning on and off all the time (Windows does not support yet USB 3.0). My PCIe hub, had a software called "USB 3.0 Host Controller Utility" I installed but the problems were still there. After upgrading this software, i.e the drivers, the problem was still there until I activate the option "Disable USB 3.0 power management function" this solved the problem and my hardrives in sequential read and writing are performing a beautiful 100 and 90 MB/s performance respectively (measured with CrystalDiskMark). My Hardrives are a couple of CnMemory Spaceloop HDD of 1 and 2 TB. If you need the software, I downloaded it from the following link:

GPIV: GNU software for Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV).

Large part of my research on fluid mechanics deal with experimental techniques. Fortunately for all of us , Dr. Gerber Van der Graaf created a project that allows us freely analyze experimental images by means of PIV. I suggest that interested people should strongly support the GPIV project, adding new features, reporting bugs, or only recommending its use to their collegues world-wide. I tested it, and the results were just excellent. Currently I am using GPIV for data analysis with high success. More information:

Synthetic Image generator for Image Velocimetry

As you probably know my work is related with Particle Tracking Velocimetry(PTV). Currently I'm developing new 2D and 3D algorithm. Normally, I was using the synthetics images of the Visualization Society of Japan, but I needed some special characteristics in the image that were no available. To solve this I create a Synthetic image generator for Matlab. To use it, is necessary to introduce a velocity distribution, for instance the results of Large Eddy Simulation (LES). The equations were taken from the book: "Particle Image Velocimetry" written by Mr. Raffel. If some one need the source code, please do not hesitate to contact me.
